New Officials Training

Welcome new officials!

GSVO will be providing training sessions for new officials in late July, and again in late August, before the start of the 2018 high school season.

Training covers:

• Rules
• Officiating mechanics and signals
• On-court practice sessions
• Scenario review
• Judgment issues

New officials are required to attend training. Individuals with prior experience reffing volleyball should inquire whether certain training requirements may be waived.

If you are interested in attending training, please contact Steven Petesch, our Recruiting & Retention Chair, for training dates and to register for class. To expedite the registration process, please fill out the following forms and either email them to Steven or bring them with you to the first class:

• New Official Registration Form
• Independent Contractor Agreement
• W9 IRS Form

Experienced officials, who might wish to request a waiver from certain training requirements, should review the following information:

• WOA Transfer of Membership
(Required for officials transferring from another volleyball board within Washington state.)
• GSVO Transfer Policy
(Requirements for transferring in as a Tier II or III official.)

Note that before you can be assigned games, you must also complete the following:

• National Background Check
• Concussion Clinic
• NASO/WOA/Volleyball Clinics
• Volleyball Rules Test

More information on how to complete these requirements will be provided after registration.
